Qatar’s space fans can look forward to two lunar eclipses this year
Those who are big fans of lunar eclipses have reasons to cheer as not one, but two spectacles will be visible to the naked eye in Qatar this year.
While the first lunar eclipse will happen next month, the second is expected to take place in August. Although two solar eclipses are also scheduled to happen, it will not be visible to people in Qatar.
“The first lunar eclipse will be on February 11 and the other on August 7,” Gulf Times quoted Qatar Calendar house official Dr Mohamed Al Ansari and astronomer Dr Beshir Marzouk as saying.
The first lunar eclipse will be a ‘penumbral’ event, which means the moon will darken slightly but not completely. The second will be a ‘partial lunar eclipse,’ where a part of the moon will darken as it moves through the earth’s shadow.
Meanwhile, the first solar eclipse will be on February 26 and the second on August 21.
