Woman hurt in accident claims QR5m compensation
Qatar, thanks to being one of the world’s most robust economies, has thousands of high-power vehicles on the road. Though it cannot be generalised, rash drivers drive at least some of these vehicles.
Such rash drivers are one of the major reasons for accidents in the country. The sad thing is that not many of these drivers are penalised according to the severity of their actions.
A woman has now filed a lawsuit with Qatar’s criminal court, claiming QR5m as compensation for injuries sustained due to an accident caused by a reckless driver ramming into her car, reported Gulf Daily News.
The plaintiff, who got badly injured, suffered a broken knee and underwent several surgeries on her leg and thigh.
The court of first instance convicted the driver and fined him QR3,000, in addition to ordering him to pay QR80,000 as compensation to the woman. The court of Appeal increased the compensation to QR200,000, but the woman approached the court of cassation claiming QR5m.
A final verdict is awaited.
