Qatar holding workshops to educate people about new labour law

The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs will be holding workshops this week to educate residents about Qatar's labour law changes.

The two-month long initiative will look to promote wider understanding of planned changes to employers and members of Qatar's expatriate community about their rights and obligations under Law No. 21 of 2015, ahead of the reform's implementation in December.

The awareness campaign will start with a series of workshops targeting key stakeholders including members of the Qatar Chamber, Embassy labour representatives in Qatar, heads of labour communities and managers and representatives of private companies and institutions, reports Qatar News Agency.

"The significant changes to Qatar's labour laws in December will require official entities to understand the new legal framework around Qatar's labour laws. Workers will also need to be aware of their rights and obligations under the new law," said Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.

"By engaging with these key stakeholders, our aim is to increase transparency. This work is vital for raising awareness among employers of Qatar's labour laws, and ensuring there are mechanisms in place for safeguarding of employees rights," he added.

The reformed labour law will make it easier for residents to switch jobs and leave the country, reports Doha News. However, the new law has failed to get rid of the exit permit and no objection certificate system for expatriates.

"However, the new law has failed to get rid of the exit permit and no objection certificate system for expatriates.".............

Obviously a nomenclature change cos the only thing that has changed is Sponsors to Employers but same old stories...

In other words, the new law doesn't change anything. It doesn't bother me, though, because December 31, will be my last day in Qatar.

"However, the new law has failed to get rid of the exit permit and no objection certificate system for expatriates." - I think that many will be surprised by this , but its good to clarify this point..

Here's an idea.. Why doesn't QL record these or publish transcripts, so that QL readers can become familiar with the new law and don't ask the same questions over and over again!
