Rain, rain, come again, all of us want to play again!
Now, we are approaching that part of the year when we know it will rain soon, and simply cannot wait for it to happen.
Yes, it’s true that just a few drops of rain will make some drivers on the road become a lot crazier. It may have something to do with how rare rains in Qatar are.
Gulf Times reports that rainy season in Qatar will begin on October 16 and last for 52 days. Depending on how you look at it, it could be the best 52 days of your life, or the most dreadful.
The temperatures will start to drop rapidly and the evenings will suddenly become a lot cooler. Outer areas of Qatar will be colder than the rest of the country.
My favorite rain memory!
My most favourite rain memory happened during the opening ceremony of the Doha Asian Games. After days of cloudy skies, the heavens opened up on December 1, 2006, the day of the ceremony. Many of the spectators in the stadium got drenched.
The anticipation was high as to how the torch would be lit.
After a rich opening ceremony, Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani rose from beneath the ground, sitting proudly atop a black horse. He was slowly led to the bottom of the big stair at the end of the stadium.
Before anyone could comprehend what was happening, he started galloping the horse up the steps. Everyone in the stadium stood up in awe.
But the wow moment was only yet to come. Midway through the climb, the horse slipped on water that had collected on the steps. Without missing a beat, Sheikh Mohammed controlled the horse expertly and pushed it to keep climbing.
It was a heart-stopping moment for all of us in the stadium. Then he was on top of the stairs, proudly surveying the mass of humanity beneath his feet. He raised his right hand above his head and lit the torch. It was a moment I’ll never forget.
