Eid Al Adha starts on September 12 after moon not sighted
The new moon was not spotted tonight, which means the first day of Eid Al Adha will be September 12, Saudi Arabia’s High Judiciary Council has said.
The 1st of Dhul-Hijjah will be on Saturday 3 September 2016, and Muslims performing Hajj will be in Arafah on Sunday 11 September 2016 (9 Dhul-Hijjah 1437). Qatar usually has Eid on the same day.
Eid Al Adha represents the tradition in which Muslims commemorate the historic sacrifice of the Prophet Abraham.
Throughout the Gulf and MENA region it remains a national holiday for everyone.
The Islamic calendar, which is based upon moon sighting allows for more flexible calculations of every year's holiday season.
Emirates 24/7 had reported that both the UAE and Saudi Arabia, agreed to meet on September 1st for a "moon sighting" to officially determine the upcoming date for Eid al Adha.
Waiting for the holy days.
