Back-to-school preparation guide for parents
As the summer vacations come to an end, parents and children gear up for the school season. The key tip to remember is; stay calm and prepare well before time. Last minute hassles are stressful, and it is best to be organized beforehand. Start preparing now with these tips in mind:
-Schedule a timetable for your kids about two weeks before school reopens. The hardest part about going back to school is adjusting to the sleep cycle after staying up later than usual throughout vacations. Be firm in ensuring their sleep schedule is followed so the early-to-bed habit is fixed when school starts.
-Bring the focus back on studies. Start preparing your kids for schoolwork by slowly bringing study revisions in their timetable. Set a certain time daily where they work upon study related activities, especially in subjects they need improvement in.
-Teach your children the importance of time management. Set daily tasks for them to be completed by a certain time, especially the ones in their study schedule. Make it easier for them by facilitating breaks during studying, and by rewarding them with their favorite meal and movie later on.
-Make a list of all the school supplies, books, workbooks and notebooks you will need to get your children started in the new school session. Check the schoolbags, uniforms, books and set aside items that are not in use anymore to donate or discard according to their condition.
-Buy new uniforms and clothes if your kids have outgrown the previous ones.
Make a special space for all school supplies in your home. Kids will learn how to be organized and have their supplies at one place, which lessens the possibility of losing items.
-Make lists for yourself to bring lunch items in your grocery. Create a menu to get a clearer idea on how to navigate weekly with healthy lunches and ways to make food attractive to kids.
-Keep all documents updated and organize them in places dedicated to school files.
-Talk to your kids about going back to school and reassure them on any troubling points. Create a positive outlook on it so that they look forward to meeting old friends and meeting new ones, and resuming studies and school activities.
