Qatar Airways to purchase 49% shares of Italy’s Meridiana Airlines
Qatar Airways signed a contribution and shareholders agreement with the second-largest airline in Italy, Meridiana, to purchase 49% of the carrier’s shares. The agreement was finalized on Thursday with Alisarda, the parent company of Meridiana.
The Italian fleet comprises of Boeing 737s, 767s and MD-82s. The carrier provides a widespread connectivity to the main hubs of US, Europe, Africa and the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia.
The Chief Executive, Qatar Airways Group Akbar Al Baker stated, “Qatar Airways continues to expand its business opportunities around the world, increasing travel options for our passengers while enhancing our investment portfolio. This agreement sets the path to progress our work towards a strong resolution that benefits both the staff and passengers who travel with Meridiana fly.
Farnborough International Airshow in UK proved to be another milestone recently for Qatar Airways, where it declared the acquisition of three G650ER aircraft from Gulfstream Aerospace. Qatar Airways also won three Skytrax World Airline Awards, including the World’s Best Business Class It disclosed another successful announcement that up to 10% of shares would be acquired of the LATAM Airline Group.
