The Future Has Begun
An electric racing car built by Swiss student engineers has broken the world record for acceleration by battery-powered vehicles.
The grimsel car took only 1.513 seconds to reach 100kph (62mph) - slashing about a quarter of a second off the previous record time.
So far, no petrol-powered production car has managed to hit the same speed in a comparable time.
The grimsel needed only 30m (98ft) of track to reach the landmark speed.
The previous record of 0-100kph in 1.779 seconds was set by a team from the University of Stuttgart last year. By comparison, the fastest production vehicle, the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid, takes 2.2 seconds to reach the same speed.
The car has been built and refined over the last year by 30 students studying at ETH Zurich (ETZ) and Lucerne's University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Almost all of car's parts have been custom built apart from its tyres, battery cells and the motor control units.
Tesla is far ahead of others. The future of petrol cars seems bleak after 2020.
Mufti is wrong, peace means US & Europe would stop making & selling defense equipments ? Lol .............. You think very less, how many millions will go without bread if you stop selling planes, tanks, ammunition ............ !
Most often universities bring out these type of news at the admission season to pull some students ................ they mint money more than car makers .......... otherwise we will see cars factories at their campuses .........
Less dependency on oil means a peaceful world.
This does not worry us .. There will always be need for gas ... Joys
My bad, brit.
I was talking about Hydrogen powered internal combustion engine car
Dear brit, the hydrogen fuel-cell is only replacing the conventional batteries. The cars still run on electricity.
Great going .. The future is already here..
I would also like to push for hydrogen power.. BMW has experimented for a while , but no real roadworthy units available yet ..
Unlike a petrol engine the electric motor has the full momentum and torque right from the beginning. Long live Tesla!
