Stay safe in the kitchen this Ramadan and Eid with these tips

Qatar's ministry of Interior took to social media this week to share some useful tips and educate residents about kitchen safety.

During Ramadan and the subsequent Eid holidays most people tend to spend more time in kitchen preparing food for at least a few hours everyday.

MoI is urging its followers on Facebook to make it a practice to exercise precaution, as residents can ensure safety of family members, especially children.

Here are some handy tips to observe in the kitchen from the experts

Ensure safety of electrical components and connections and be careful not to leave them exposed in a risky manner.

Wipe up spills as soon as they happen. Wet spots can be slippery and dangerous.

When working with pots on the stove, be sure to hold the handle while stirring to prevent the pot from slipping off the burner.

Keep children away from knives and other sharp objects.

Keep electrical cords away from stove tosp, ovens or sinks.

Before leaving the kitchen, check that the oven and burners are all turned off. It's always smarter to turn off the gas supply after use.

Never put water on a cooking fire in the case of accidents. Use fire blankets or fire extinguishers instead.

Never add water to a pan with hot oil in it. It could splatter and burn someone.

Keep paper towels, dish towels and pot holders away from the stove top so they don't catch on fire.

Keep the kids away from burners and electric sources.

We hope some of these simple tips from the Ministry of Interior were useful.
