Khalifa International Stadium gets 4-star sustainability rating

The design of Khalifa International Stadium, which is currently under renovation and due to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016, has won recognition for achieving sustainability standards, Gulf Times reported.
Khalifa International Stadium recently received the provisional four-star rating in the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), administered by the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD). This is the first certificate for a renovation project to be issued by GORD.
Talking about the achievement, Mansoor Al Muhannadi, Khalifa International Stadium project manager, Aspire Zone Foundation, said: “We’re very proud of this recognition which highlights our undertaking during the renovation of Khalifa International Stadium to also make it a more sustainable venue.
“In addition to this, fans will have the possibility to opt for the more sustainable means to reach the stadium, through easy access to transportation infrastructure including the nearby Doha Metro stations.”
The award from GORD — a Qatar-based organisation — means the SC is also supporting a local company as it continues to make regular progress towards 2022.
The SC requires every proposed 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar stadium be awarded a minimum four-star GSAS rating in order to meet FIFA sustainability requirements for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar competition venues.
Al Wakrah Stadium received a four-star rating for its design in 2015.
GSAS ratings for both Khalifa and Al Wakrah stadiums projects mean they are two of the most sustainably designed stadiums in the Middle East and North Africa region.

accha, they have enough money to water the whole of Qatar - if they wanted to. But they go for vanity towers or stadia. I am still laughing.
WT: What a yardstick of measurement! You have set standards which can never be met as Qatar is a desert country and to grow food one definitely needs the full support of nature, an important constituent being rain. Thus, it gives you the "excuse" of saying "What a shame" simply because you MUST criticize Qatar and everything it has got to offer.
accha, when a country, or a state, can feed its people without buying 95% of the food from abroad, I will stop laughing about the country.
So, you travel to Qatar with a 5-star airline, then you stay in a 5-star hotel, but you have to watch the World Cup in a 4-star stadium. That's a shame!
WT: What is "your" standard which would stop you from saying "What a shame?" I believe if all the heavenly stars were to shine on Qatar, you will still remain unsatisfied as basically from your viewpoint all the "starry" things are only in the west.
Only 4 stars? What a shame!
So in essence, all the stadia have to get this rating to comply with FiFa requirements
Congrats ............... Our efforts have brought this result .......... So nice ............
We are pleased and overjoyed by this news
