Moving with Infant
Hi All,
I am considering a move over (from Australia) and wanted to ask about child safety gear.
What standards are cars set up to in order to take Child seats, do they follow European or US standards? Would I be able to fit and Australian seat into a Qatari standards car?
Baby proofing - how are landlords on baby proofing rental property (eg fitting of drawer locks and baby gates?). Can you buy reasonable gear (and furniture) in Doha or would I be better off shopping online?
Baby sitting. I understand that getting live in help needs a six month wait before you can apply. Am I right or are there any other ways to get help beforehand? If so what sort of costs would I be facing?
Do members have any other toddler tips?
Many Thanks / Shukran,
FTH
You can get maids / helpers / nannies through local agencies.. They will provide replacement cover during vacation time.
Nobody cares for "standards" here. Make sure your baby is safe according to YOUR standards. And "Qatar" cars don't exist. They have all international brands here and they are not different from the cars built in Europe, Japan, or the USA. The only difference is that they drive on the right (!) side of the road. - I mean, they should.
Thanks all. Brit, in your case with kids have your been importing stuff from the UK? Reason for asking is to know wether we would have to replace all our Aussie standard baby stuff with European equipment.
On baby sitting/maids, is it possible to get some form of temp cover on a live in
basis without (your wife) sponsoring the visa and waiting 6 months? For example when helpers go home for their holiday, can you get temporary cover?
I admit, Forgive me Muad & F , I thought F is moving to Melbourne ........... I too welcome you here & wish you joys ...........
People have been giving birth and raising childfen in Qatar for hundreds of years - so no need to worry.
Child seat fittings are standard and you should not have any problems.
Baby proofing is up to you.. The landlord will not stop you as long as you don't damage the property or fittings.. You can clear with the landlord at rental time..
Everything is available in Qatar - It may be a little more expensive here.
Baby sitters are available on an hourly basis... The cost varies from 30qr to 60qr an hour...
Muad, Shake your head my pal, your input has no head or tail ............ he is leaving & you welcome him ? It's kind of you are pulling him to two opposite directions !! ...................
F, If you have some contacts / friends already there, then no worries , they will tell you a lot of cost saving tips , One thing is sure you will not as much co operation as in Wakrah ........ for example ...... you will miss your time at a heaven like place , but life is a journey , we have to keep moving sometimes for your wife other times for your kids ................
Welcome fth .. You will enjoy Qatar
