New FIFA president Infantino to visit Qatar on April 20

Newly-elected FIFA president Gianni Infantino will visit Qatar, the hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, next Wednesday, according to the global football body.

FIFA said on its website that Infantino would visit Russia on April 19 to visit Moscow’s Luzhinki’s Stadium which will host the opening match of World Cup 2018.

After that, ‘president Infantino will embark in the evening of April 20 for Doha, where he will meet, among others, senior board members of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and senior officials of the Qatari government,’ FIFA said.

Infantino was elected as president of the world football body in February after FIFA elections in Zurich. He defeated Bahrain’s Asian Football Confederation president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa 115-88 in the second round of voting.
