West Indies will meet England in the high-octane T20 World Cup cricket final at the Eden Gardens ground in Kolkata on Sunday.
India, winners of the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2007, lost to West Indies by seven wickets at a packed Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The country, hosting the biennial (soon to be quadrennial) event for the first time, batted first and made 192 for two at the back of Virat Kohli’s solid 89 runs (off 47 balls).
West Indies, winners in 2012, began by losing two quick wickets. Dangerous opener Chris Gayle (five) and MN samuels (eight) fell cheaply, but Johnson Charles (52) and Lendi Simmons (83 not out) then steadied the boat for them. Simmons was very lucky, surviving two out decisions.
Though Charles fell in the 13th over, it was too little, too late for team India. Though the hosts managed to cut the runs in the end, West Indies, with seven wickets in hand, were cool and calculated. Simmons hot a massive six to finish off the game (196/3).
Meanwhile, in the first semifinal, England defeated New Zealand by seven wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi.
England’s Jason Roy was their best player with 78 runs while Colin Munro (46) was New Zealand’s best player.
So dear QLer, who will you be supporting for the title on Sunday?
Go England !
This is great news .. Ofcourse as part of the commonwealth and their allegiance to the Queen, all Indians and Pakistanis will be rooting for England
