Sheikha Al Mayassa: Qatar "more excited" to host World Cup after media criticism

Media criticism of Qatar's World Cup has strengthened the host's resolve to organise a successful event, according to Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Qatar Museums' chairperson was speaking during a panel session at the New York Times Art for Tomorrow conference at the W Doha hotel.

"The more the press attacks Qatar for hosting the World Cup, the more excited we are to host an amazing World Cup," she said while addressing media coverage of Qatar's controversial World Cup bid win.

The Emir's sister also addressed the criticism of the controversial Al Wakrah Stadium designed by Zaha Hadid, which many said looked like a female genitalia.

Sheikha Mayassa said: "There's the Zaha Hadid building which everybody didn't like but we liked it so we went ahead and started to construct the Wakrah Stadium.

"I think art is a matter of taste, just like fashion and everything else. It's going to be very interesting for us in 10 years time to see the result of our innovative efforts today."

Indeed, I think the Mona Lisa is the ugliest woman I've ever seen, and the picture is small and dark. My children can paint better than that. But the world says it's art. Isn't that the way the world has been fooled for ages?

Well Said.. Art is matter of taste..

On my first sight itself I felt it has a shape of an EYE..

As Brit told Art is subjective...It may vary from person to person...

Who cares if the stadium looks like a woman's body part. What sort of person even cares about the look of those organs?

She is right. Art is subjective . Whether the stadium looks like a female genetalia is a great discussion point and keeps it in the limelight
