NISSAN win PIBAQ’s Inter-Car Division basketball title

DOHA: NISSAN edged AAB Toyota 62-58 to win the Inter-Car Division title of Pinoy Basketball of Qatar’s 19th Season at the Al Gharafa Training Gym last week.

Nissan’s Benzon Mendoza, who was chosen as 19th season’s Most Valuable Player, was on fire throughout the final. With wholehearted support from his team-mates, he emerged as the most popular player of the final.

Mendoza was his team’s top scorer, with 20 points, while Allan Mallari (16), Darwin Talastas (nine) and Thirdie Bazan (eight) all made useful contributions.

“Both teams played with pride to raise their company’s banner, but in the end there is only one champion,” said NISSAN coach Francis Mercado, who is also a PIBAQ Game Commissioner and PYC Youth Director.

The battle for third place was not short on excitement either. The game between Porsche and Alfardan went into double overtime before the former emerged as winner.

Porsche’s Allan Mac Lloremia and Alfardan’s Aristotle Fernandez almost single-handedly carried their teams on their shoulders.
