WhatsApp launches new features that give users even more firepower!
If you aren’t aware of a certain app called WhatsApp, then chances are you’ve been living under a rock all these years. It has revolutionised the way we communicate and made SMS and MMS feel like obsolete technologies.
If recent developments are any indication, WhatsApp is getting more resourceful with each passing day.
From now on, in addition to pictures and videos, you can start attaching documents in chat messages.
Changes in Android version
On Android, users will find a new ‘Document’ option in the attachment section (pictured). For the time being, users are allowed to send only PDF files, but it is likely to expand and add more file types in the future.
As earlier, there are six attachment options, with Photo and Video now being combined into Camera due to the addition of Document.
One downside is that a user cannot send a document until the receiver has also updated the app to the same or newer Android app version.
The feature, which was rolled out recently (to be released gradually in every region), is available in Android v2.12.453 and iOS v2.12.4 versions.
There are also many other tweaks that are going to make its one billion users happy.
The new update also brings with it over 100 new emojis, Google Drive Backup for chats and media and support for five new languages.
Changes in iOS version
WhatsApp for iOS lets users share photos or videos from other apps such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft OneDrive. Users just need to open ‘Photo/Video Library’ and tap ‘Choose from another app...’ to share files.
Users can also pick from a set of solid colors for chat background. Besides an improved design for browsing photos and videos, iOS users can even zoom in on videos while they are playing.
