Gianni Infantino chosen as FIFA President until 2019

FIFA’s 207 members voted overwhelmingly in support of Gianni Infantino in the second round to give him the sports body’s mandate until 2019.

Infantino scored 115 votes in the second round, with Bahrain’s Asian Football Confederation President Shaikh Salman garnering 88 votes. Jordan’s Prince Ali polled four votes while Jerome Champagne got no votes.

Earlier in the first round Infantino, the UEFA general secretary, had received 88 votes. Shaikh Salman took 85 votes, with Prince Ali on 27 votes and Champagne picking up seven votes.

With no candidate receiving the required two-thirds of the 207 votes cast, a second round of voting was needed to find Blatter’s successor.
