“Arab Majlis” evening get to gather culture is centuries old
From the old days, Arabs, after hectic day’s work, would sit outside their houses (left or right side of their main gate, on benches) and traded gossips and discussed areas of their interests.
Exchange of information, jokes, business deals and openness were the hall marks of these Majalis. With the arrival of air conditioners the Majlis was transferred inside the house (separate sitting room) whereas the Sulaimani tea came in to entertain such informal meetings.
However with the fading times, this culture is now dyeing, as the Arab youths have no time left away from Computers, tablets, SUVs and mobile phones. The “Shisha Café” has further prompted the demise of Majlis culture.
During Ramadan, this tradition is revived (After Traweeh prayer) and you would then get to see dozens of Arabic dishes after dry fruit & chocolates etc.
