Excellent comparative, highlighting the differences and beauties of both the cultures. However with the arrival of global village life, both the cultures are now meeting midway.
When it comes to cultural differences, the east and the west are worlds apart. Neither is better nor worse than the other. It's the way of looking at life that by and large differs. In the eastern cultures, a leader assumes a supreme status and is often elevated to a God-like status irrespective of his worth. In western cultures the concept of equality exists and a leader is just one among the rest. Relationships in eastern cultures are family-centric and it is one of the reasons why arranged marriages are still very much pertinent. In western civilizations, the self is given preference over family. In western societies, the individual is given more worth, while in the eastern society it is the community and the family that holds sway. Religion in the eastern societies is given more importance than perhaps in the western societies. In the east even to this day, there are riots and killings in the name of faith. Religion has been stretched to the extent of intolerance in the east. Independence exists in its true context in the west. In the east it comes with "ifs" and "buts." Furthermore, in the east women are still regarded as someone who would sacrifice professional life and career in favour or rearing children. In the west, a female is free to decide her priorities. The west is known for its openness and the ease with which several topics can be discussed. The east lacks this due its conservative outlook. Finally, people from the east are rigid in their beliefs and ideologies. For them, truth is what has been there for thousands of years irrespective of its fading validity in modern times. However, things are looked at from a more rational perspective in the west.
I agree. When I invited friends to my house in Qatar (mostly Western Asians) they never left before the bottles were empty. They just couldn't stand to see a half full bottle! And my wife said in those days she had never seen so many drunkards in her life before as here in Qatar.
Just to prove my point .... MM posted this comment in another thread ..
"HS .......... What are your long term dreams ? ....... If you think about retiring in an Asian country then you should not worry about starting soon with 10K ........... because life is easier in Asia as compared to Europe / USA ......... One can save a lot by not drinking ........."
Now, I've been around a bit. And some of the biggest drinkers I've met have been from India and China... :O(
If you define 'culture' by art, language, clothes, food, architecture, religion, philosophy, science, values, ethics, society, education, life-style, celebrities, history, laws, governments, infrastructure, and a thousand other characteristics, then there are huge differences between any two cultures, not only between East and West but also between North and South. The climate and the environment form a 'culture' to a great deal. However, one thing should be common to all cultures: they are all human. Unfortunately this isn't always the case.

There are no real differences. The basis are the same in both. Sadly, people tend to highlight the bad in each and use that to say one is better than the other

And that's when the trouble actually began!!
Culture is a strange thing. We all think we are superior....
A Greek and Italian were sitting down one day debating who had the superior culture.
The Greek says: We have the Parthenon
The Italian says: We have the Coliseum
The Greek says: We had great Mathematicians
The Italian says: We had the Roman Empire and so on and so on and then the
Greek says: We invented sex
The Italian says: That is true, but it was the Italians who introduced it to women.
Both shed clothes when they go to one anothers' regions ...........
