Can anyone recommend a good hospital in Doha (kidney stones)???

Note: This post is health-related and please bear with me for the rather long post but I hope this would also help others and your comments would help me and others decide which hospital to go to.

Hi Doha peeps.

Can any of you recommend, based from experience, which of the private hospitals here in Doha has good doctors, facilities and the capability to treat kidney stones?

As a background, for the past 3 years, I have had treatment (Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy and stent insertion, and a couple of shockwave/ESWL sessions) in Al Ahli and I can say that my experience was fairly good. Unfortunately, the Urologist who was treating me left for good and the one who took his place "seemed not interested in treating me" and referred me to Hamad Hospital for my (supposedly) last set of procedures which is PCNL surgery for 2 large kidney stones lodged in my left kidney, saying that Hamad has better/more hi-tech facilities/capabilities to do the surgery that they can take out the last 2 remaining stones in 1 procedure (PCNL - http://www.kidneystoneclinic.com.au/percutaneous-nephrolithotomy.html). Unlike in Al Ahli where, due to the insufficiency of equipment, they cannot take the 2 stones out in 1 procedure.

And so, after about 6-8 months of doctor appointments, tests, and cancelled/postponed surgery schedules due to unavailability of hospital beds, last August, I underwent PCNL in Hamad (main). I can say that my experience was not that good. I could of course understand sharing the room with four other people as Hamad is a non-profit hospital and I heard that patients are lined up and are prioritised based on urgency. But I must say that I have had a not so good experience with regards to patient care and pain management.

Anyway, as mentioned, I had the PCNL done in Aug. 23 but unfortunately, contrary to what the urologist in Al Ahli told me, Hamad was only able to remove 1 of my last 2 remaining stones. And so the urologist advised me to first try a couple of Shockwave treatments to try to break up the last stone and if successful, he would just do another ureteroscopy and I could avoid another (painful and discomforting) PCNL. He scheduled for the 30th Sep. as he said my kidney needs time to rest and heal from the PCNL first. But alas, Hamad called me just the other day to tell me that my Sep. 30 schedule (Shockwave) was moved to the 22nd (today)! I explained to the person I was talking to that I just recently had surgery and that the urologist specifically scheduled the 30th and that it may not be good for me to undergo shockwave a week earlier and that I actually still experience bleeding when I urinate which might be an indication that my kidney still hasn't healed but the person just told me it is ok and to come on the 22nd.

And so, I was supposed to go this morning but, aside from the fact that I am not feeling well (the medicine they gave me to take the night before has kept me awake all night bec. of stomache ache and the need to go to the toilet every hour), my gut told me not to proceed, fearing another painful experience and fearing for my health in general if they push through with the Shockwave despite the circumstances I already explained.

Hence, I am now thinking of just going back to Al Ahli or to another private hospital that could continue my treatment (noting that I still have a stent inside me which was placed in Hamad during my PCNL in preparation for the shockwave).

I do have full insurance coverage (AXA).

Any input or advise would be very much appreciated.
