October is going to be a very special month for all of us in Qatar. The reason? Qatar will be hosting the world’s largest para-athletic tournament next month!
This will be the first time that the IPC Athletics World Championship will be held in the Middle East. The tournament will kick off at the Qatar Sports Club from the 21st of October until the 31st.
Around 1400 amazingly talented athletes with special needs will compete from about 100 countries.
Qatar’s national team consists of 9 athletes including, Abdel Rahman Abdel Qader, Mohamed Al Khubaisi and the only female in the group, Sara Hamdi Masoud.
These athletes are extremely talented. Abdel Qader has been ranked 2nd in the world for shotput. He will also compete in javeline and discus throw.
Likewise, Sara Hamdi Masoud won the gold medal in both discus and shot put in the 2014 Asian Para Games. She didn’t stop there. In April this year, she came 2nd in the IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing.
Al-Khubaisi bagged the gold medal in the 100m T34 event at the 2014 Asian Para Games. He also continued to win gold in the wheelchair 100m and 200m events in Beijing during the IPC Athletics Grand Prix tournament.
A test event and also this year’s GCC Para-Athletics Championship will go on in Qatar till the 15th of September and the Qatari athletes along with 200 other para athletes will be taking part in it.
We wish the athletes all the very best!
