Crane crash on Old Airport Road, at least one dead
A crane reportedly crashed on to the main street on Old Airport road near F-Ring road this morning and caused major traffic flow disruption.
Doha News reported that at least one individual died following the crane accident. It is still unclear if the deceased was the crane operator or someone else.
Those injured in the incident were two Egyptians and an Indian. One of the Egyptians is in critical condition and is being treated at the Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU) of Hamad General Hospital (HGH).
The victims were rushed to the hospital by an ambulance team of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The Indian has undergone a surgery, while the other Egyptian also remains admitted at the hospital, said a source.
The crane toppled over between the Ahmed Al Ahmed intersection and the Air Force intersection causing heavy traffic congestion in the area and a partial road closure. The reason for the collapse was not known yesterday.
Photos of the incident have been circulating on social media. The photos show blood splattered on the crane, helmets and safety vests on the ground and debris of the crane crash. A particular photo also shows a figure covered in blue sheet, reportedly the body of the dead individual.
Ambulance and police patrols rushed to the scene following the accident are diverting traffic on to F-Ring road.

@djseanjohn this is your stupid mentality that made you to come up with such shit judgement. Cheap is your company to hire such absent minded person like you.
@@@djseanjohn: I don't care which part of the world you are from, cheap is your mentality, your upbringing, your thoughts. I think you are one such racist guy, who does not even care to apologise. Hide wherever you can, we will smoke you out.
Corrected as Racist
@djseanjohn: Come to the topic; don't be raciest. You need to make Public Apology for your saying.
I told before also ........ Human Error , human error ................ .......... .............................
May the departed soul rest in peace..
It has been learned that the crane was under erection. Bad weather / heavy wind could be the cause at first place. those who gave green signal for the erection to take place are to be held responsible for this incident.
Safetyman 15: Yes, all nationalities have super performers with considerable knowledge and experience in their field of work. Your input was very informative. It is just very sad and painful that this incident took place and there was loss of precious human life and injuries irrespective of who died or got injured. All of us are here to earn for our families back home and return safely.
@djseanjohn , i check your profile, u are just a Nigerian storekeeper, you don't know anything about the safety job .... besides don't judge the ability of any nationalities.............just say sorry for your mistake...
Dear QL Friends and safety guys, actually the information what i fetch is, the crane was totally not set up, just the installation was going on... its a high branded crane with capacity of 10 Tons, for such big crane, the foundation was made only around 3*3 mtrs (RCC Concreate) with around (50 Tons), but for such big cranes, the foundation suppose to be minimum 5.5*5.5 to 6 with avarage weigh of 110 Tons...while they are in the aim to install the main jib (boom), they loaded the counter weight approx 4.5 Tons in the installed back jib, all of a sudden the entire installed sections along with the crane foundation got imbalanced and fell down.... yesterdays wind was also a factor in this case!,
not only in Qatar, every countries including Europe and america having similar incidents, the responsible guys must at least read the manufacture specification/recommendation before installing/modifying such equipment.
well..anything can happen unexpectedly..however there should be no mentioning of any nationalities for bashing..not good in this forum.
@djseanjohn: who the hell are you to say about Indians??? can you let us know your nationality??? just go to hell man...
@djseanjohn: who the hell are you to say about Indians??? can you let us know your nationality??? just go to hell man...

@djseanjohn : please be wise in this case, no need to pointing any country or any people, wait for the further investigation and see what actually happen
djseanjohn: While pointing fingers at Indians and Nepalese, you simply forgot to mention Filipinos. They also come in cheap, don't they. Did you deliberately forget them? I believe you did. Then what surety is there that an accident such as this very sad one, would not have taken place with your western Safety people around? I have worked with safety professionals from your part of the world and know how good they are. Want me to cite you cases of safety incidents where safety managers from the west ruled?
mR. djseanjohn,,, DONT USE UR CHEAP LANGUAGE
@djseanjohn ..... Mind your own buiness and comment only related to topic and don't cross the limit..... i hope you no Bill Gates ???? do you know what he said once about indians ???? Bill Gates once said that if he stopped hiring engineers from India then there would be another Microsoft in India?
WT: I would tend to agree with you. However, till we know the facts , we can't make a judgement.
There could be a number of reasons - negligence, safety, lack of training, ground shifting, metal fatugue etc etc
@@@djseanjohn .....PLEASE VERYFY WHO HAS GIVEN THE SAFE CERTIFICATE FOR THE CRANE TO OPERATE....MUST BE YOUR RELATIVE?...IF NOT KEEP FINDING...
AT LEAST SAY SORRY...YOU HAVE INSULTED THE PEOPLE OF TWO COUNTRY. I HOPE THATS WHAT THEY THEACH IN YOUR COUNTRY......MANNERS
MY PRAYERS AND SYMPATHY WITH THE FAMILY OF THE DECEASED
Human error is the major factor in the situations like these ............ ............. ............................
Brit, I wouldn't call it an "accident". It's more a criminal negligence.
The number of casualties is a fact and not subject to protection of the owner. The cause or fault could be withheld until the experts have finished their examinations.
Is it appropriate to ask ....... '' Share your photos '' ..................... ? ! .......... Focus should be at the possible causes & how to prevent re-occuring ............... Prayers for the departed souls ........... ...........................
They keep mum because they don't want to alarm the public and also perhaps to protect the owners till the investigation is complete and blame can be aportioned :O)
i wonder why they keep mum about the death toll, i was at f ring signal at that time,. 3 people were pronounced dead at spot by the medical team,..
Its not that they don't tell the full stories or the truth behind the incident, the article was based on the report which still progressing. They mentioned at least 1 casualty, so it is perhaps even more.
Horrors ... Why would they not tell the full story ?
They are not telling truth.the truth is that there were 5 people dead and there were 2 of them whose leg was separated by there body due to accident.I was there at the moment.
@ wertyuio , Very well said! @ djseanjohn - how dare you call Indians and Nepalis CHEAP! Racist Much!
may the deceased soul rest in peace....
@djseanjohn mind your words,
who the hell are you to distinguish indians as cheap?
were you on the accident site? is that the reason u r criticising on the basis of nationality? or u r so sure abt d hse officer?
@djseanjohn oh yeah? look at the weather today! it was very hot and windy too! dont complain the cheap labour and all...look at other major factors!
@djseanjohn oh yeah? look at the weather today! it was very hot and windy too! dont complain the cheap labour and all...look at other major factors!
when companies keep hiring cheap indians and nepal HSE officers, this and many more is the result you have
May the deceased rest in peace. Accidents do happen, but Health and Safety need to look into this to ensure standards were followed
