Qatar Rail Celebrates Qatar’s Fourth National Sports Day with MOT
Doha – Qatar, Feb 12, 2015 – In commitment to culture of healthy lifestyles in the Qatari community, Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) took part in the sports activities organized by the Ministry of Transport, on the occasion on Qatar’s Fourth National Sports Day, in a family event full of fun and entertainment.
Qatar Rail’s participation came as part of its commitment to sports initiatives that are in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility program, which includes all aspects of development in Qatar aiming to achieve environmental sustainability, as well as the social, cultural and human development.
The annual sports event is in compliance with the Emiri decree No. (80) for the year 2011 , which consists of adopting Tuesday of the second week of February to celebrate the National Sports Day every year.
Commenting on the occasion, Eng. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Turki Al Subaie, Managing Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Qatar Rail, said: “Qatar Rail was keen on participating with the Ministry of Transport in the activities of the National Sports Day to celebrate this event, especially that the ministry brought together all stakeholders and relevant companies in the transport sector.”
“Qatar Rail projects are based on a fundamental pillar aiming to use trains and practice short-distance walking when navigating between the future Metro stations. The occasion was a great opportunity to encourage walking in short distances, as this can carry a positive impact on the health of every individual,” he added.
Subaie also assured that “Qatar has become a global capital of sports by hosting many of the world championships.” He indicated that “dedicating an annual day for this purpose helps citizens and residents enjoy a family day of entertainment away from work pressures”.
The sports event took place at Matar El Khor and joined prominent companies such as Mowasalat, Qatar Ports Management Company, Civil Aviation Authority and Qatar Aeronautical College.
From his part, Eng. Saad Ahmed Al Mohannadi, CEO of Qatar Rail, said: "Qatar Rail participated in the event this year, alongside the Ministry of Transport, to express its interest in sports activity and commitment to this annual important annual occasion in the state. Through its participation, Qatar Rail aimed to achieve a number of goals, mainly upgrading the level of active healthy life and encouraging employees to enjoy physical training and commit to healthy practices that can preserve their health.”
