Qatar has opened its first shopping complex run and managed by women for women yesterday, according to The Peninsula.

The shopping complex has 34 outlets retailing various products like household items, beauty products, garments and perfumes, among other things.

The complex is located at Al Shafi Commercial Street and also has some food outlets.

The complex and the outlets within are all run and managed by women for women clientele.

This shopping complex is the brainchild of Qatari businesswoman, Sohaila Al Hareb, and aims at ensuring the privacy of Qatari women.

Al Hareb says women in Qatar can now shop for household and personal items in privacy.

I think this will be mainly targeting conservative women as main customers. Not only the Qataris, but conservative tourists from GCC countries.

This 'brainchild' stops 70% of all people in Qatar from shopping at the mall, and sells the same things as the other malls. It also prevents families from going out and shopping together. Sounds more like brainless child to me.

More segregation, rather than respecting women, we want to keep them away in a separate area
