Four outlets shut down for selling expired food items

Al Rayyan Municipality has temporarily closed down four eating and food stuff outlets for violating health and safety rules.
The decision to temporarily close the establishments were issued by the director of Al Rayyan Municipality after health inspectors found the violations including selling expired food items that were not fit for human consumption.
The closed outlets included a falafel cafeteria in Al Shahaniya area, Al Khayal Restaurant for Lebanese Food in Muraikh area, Baba Al Rayan supermarket also in Muraikh area and a grocery shop selling fruits and vegetables in the Al Mara Al Sharqiya area.
Al Nuaimi said that the municipality inspectors were intensifying their inspections to crackdown on all food related outlets that violate the health requirements.
Once a violation is spotted the inspectors first demand that the outlet rectifies the violation in a specified time and if it fails to do this then the outlet is temporarily closed until the violations are addressed.
Also according to the Law No. 4 of 2014 on the regulation and monitoring of food outlets, the closed outlet will be disclosed with its name and location on the ministry’s website as soon as the decision of closure is implemented.
Last week a popular Turkish food restaurant called Marmara was closed for up to two months pending a probe after several customers complained of food poisoning.
