News ... BERLIN: German police rescued an 83-year-old man pushing his bicycle in the middle of a motorway on Saturday after he gave up trying to cycle to Luxembourg to withdraw more than 100,000 euros ($134,300) = 479596 Riyals from a bank there.
The police in Schweich, near the western town of Trier, said they closed the high-speed A 602 motorway in both directions after the man was spotted pushing his bicycle there.
Police said he told them he wanted to get the money out of his bank account before German tax authorities found out about it. The grand duchy is a preferred banking centre for Germans trying to hide savings from taxation at home.
Police said the man, who had been reported missing on Wednesday, was sent home in a taxi with his bicycle and the motorway was later re-opened. They declined to give any further information about the case.

Kiwi, Motorists 'r wrong , they have eyes & controls on their metal boxes , why can't they tolerate a slowing moving gentleman cycling on his own pace or he may start walking just to get some relief { remember his age ... 83 golden years } .... people just forget very soon .... before vehicles started flying on that track who were using it at their leisurely pace at horse buggies & bicycles etc ? Slow movers too has right to choose their mode of travel ...... motorists just occupied somebody else's track , the original owners need to wake up to regain their space & lost dignity ..... in this way they will be saving environment from CO2 practically .. ....... Kiwi , Qatar encourages greenery & wishes to see less CO2 release from you , hope you take your responsibility sincerely , the German gentleman is role model for those who support greeer world , healthy citizen by adopting cycling even at the age of 83 ! ..... Police interfered because this criminal (tax dodger) was pushing his bike in the middle of a high-speed motorway and could have caused a serious accident that could possibly have killed many people. What has this got to do with Qatar, anyway?
