HIA ready for rush after vacation

All arrangements are in place at Hamad International Airport (HIA) to complete the immigration process in the shortest possible time for Qatar residents returning from vacation and for newcomers to the country, a senior official has said.

“The end of summer vacation witnesses a substantial increase in passenger arrivals and we are fully prepared to meet the rush,” Lt Col Mohamed Rashid al-Mazroue, director of the Passports Department at HIA, explained.

The staff members manning the immigration counters are highly trained to complete the passport screening and iris scan as quickly as possible, he added. HIA can handle 6,000 passengers per hour.

There are 60 counters and 16 eGates.

What do you think? Can HIA handle the rush better than before?

I disagree. Although there is a line for 'families' and another for 'others', it is not monitored. As a result waiting times have not changed as the family line is mostly single males who are able to rush off the plane first while those of us with screaming and vomiting children are always at the end of the line. Still a joke. Baggage a joke. Baggage services counter in arrivals waiting area has the most useless staff I have ever come across. This type of reporting serves only one purpose: to stroke the egos of those in charge.
