Expat jailed for selling off girlfriend's car

A criminal court has sentenced an expatriate to a year in jail after he was found guilty of forging his girlfriend’s signature and selling her expensive car.

The court said in its verdict that the convict be deported after he has served the jail term.

Details of the case suggest that the man sold his girlfriend’s brand new Renault car for QR117,000 to a Qatari.

The girlfriend lodged a police complaint saying that her car had been stolen. Sale documents suggested that the ownership of the car was transferred to the convict after she had put her signature on the sale deed.

But she claimed in her complaint that this was not her signature and that it was forged.

Preliminary investigation by police revealed that the complainant and the convict were friends.

But the woman said she didn’t know how the man had managed to take a copy of her ID.

She said the convict had taken her car but refused to return it even after a month and that prompted her to approach police.

The Qatari buyer of the car was contacted and he told the court that he had bought the car through an agency and it was registered in the name of the seller’s wife. But the wife wasn’t present at the time of the sale, he said.

The agency charged him a commission of QR500, added the buyer.

Sale documents were referred to the forensic laboratory which confirmed that the owner’s signature was forged, local Arabic daily Al Raya reported yesterday.

During interrogation, the convict said he had bought the car and got it registered in his girlfriend’s name.

“I was planning to marry my girlfriend and, secondly, there was a case against me with the Search and Follow-Up Department so I didn’t want the car to be registered in my name,” he said.

He claimed that the police complaint filed by his “former” girlfriend was to seek revenge against him because he refused to marry her.

So what if the guy really bought the car? he will be release then? i dont think so, regardless of who bought the car,.. the case was already concluded on the basis of falsification of public documents... even if he originally bought the car, the fact that he forged her signature on a legal documents that is a big mistake on his part... falsification of public documents is a clear violation of the law.

First, they can find out who paid for the car... If the guy really paid for it - he can proved it.... and yes, find out the job of the lady if she can afford to buy a car.

The answer is very simple. Qatar is a sovereign nation and it has laws. They are not laws made or enforced by AlamSyed. They are made and enforced by officials in Qatar. If there are many people who chose not to follow them, that does not make these laws wrong. In fact, it makes those people wrong who chose not to follow the laws of the land in a country where they benefit. Don't agree with the situation, no problem. You are free to leave anytime you like. Chao.
