Authorities raid partitioned accommodation in Madinat Khalifa
In a major crackdown, the authorities recently zeroed in on a partitioned house in South Madinat Khalifa that was used for accommodating large number of labourers and single workers.
The Ministry of Interior had announced earlier that it was illegal to partition a residential unit without the permission of the concerned municipality.
The house was originally hired by a restaurant owner for accommodating his employees but it turned out that the facility was being rented out to workers from other companies as well.
Representatives from the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs took part in the raid that came in response to repeated complaints from the residents of the area.
Mohammed Shaheen Al Ateeq, a member of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) representing the area, also accompanied the team.
The raid was part of an ongoing campaign to implement the law banning labour accommodations in residential areas.
The house, which has the capacity of a maximum nine people was being used to accommodate about 45 workers. Six types of violations were detected at the facility.
The house which originally had three or four small rooms were divided into more rooms having wooden walls which also involves a clear violation of the law that bans partitioning houses illegally.
The inspection team also checked two other houses in the area that were being used as labour accommodations to make sure whether they had complied with warnings issued by the authorities earlier.

I rent my villa and am willy to pay for the right to stay in a residential area. It is unacceptable that a month later 45 workers moved in next door. I do not choose to live in a labour camp. Aside from the loss of privacy, the rubbish that started building up on the sidewalk which spilled into my driveway, the rubbish being thrown over the wall into my courtyard and the ridiculous noise levels when they all decide to make noise at the same time,,, lets think about the health, fire and safety hazards. They had electrical extention cables running all over the house. At one stage I counted 32 cables just from the outside buildings going in through windows on the top floor. They surely didn't have enough toilet/bathroom facilities for that many people. They had a little wood shack in the front acting as a kitchen. (Who knows what they did with the actual kitchen at the back of the villa) And then just because they can, they took up making fire on the paving between all the shacks they erected, so they can make extra food. Every time we go out into our garden, we have a full crowd staring into our yard. Forget about using my own pool, in my own PRIVATE garden. They took up sitting on the roof of their villa/labour camp, every time we got close to the pool. As a woman, I find it unacceptable and yes, I complained and they are gone. I am not responsible as to where they went. If they ended up on the street, there is clearly a law needed to keep companies from putting their workers in that position in the first place. Not my problem. I pay for my privacy, now I can enjoy it again.
Stand-alone houses rent will go down, flats rent will go high >> winner is greedy landlords and we are the losers as usual
Salary in Qatar 2000 to 3500
House rent in Qatar :- 2500 to 20,000

@Sonia Rahman : thank you very much for the info.,,,,,,u r absolutely right,,,,,,we r also living right now in madina south in dirty villa and paying almost 9K though its company provided,,,,,,hopefully, i wil complain to baladiya now :))) Thanks again :))
It's the safest measure the Qatar government has done. When tenants partition villas, they usually add or re-route the plumbing in the interior and exterior of the wall to attach a kitchen sink or washing machine. As a result, the unskilled construction (water pressure, pipe angles, or wrong valves, etc.), causes damage to the entire villa. For instance, you will find the second floor of the villa leaking to the first floor. As a result, the electrical starts to spark and causes fires. The 2nd floor room is not safe guarded with tile to handle people cooking with oil and using gas tanks. With too many occupants the plumbing gets too expensive to restore, so you will find usually a bunch of Indians filling large water bottles from the outside faucet of the Qatari homes and taking a shower in the bushes and bringing it back to their villa as drinking water. For families to be exposed to an environment is unsuitable. Sometimes you will find the security guard taking a shower in the swimming pool or using the club house restroom everyday because they sublease their small apartment to 10 other laborers at night. If one of them looser their job, the unthinkable will occur to families.

friendlyme : your comment shows how SOME envy Qatar for what it has...
what is the topic saying...can anyone recall me
Maybe he's calling for a popular uprising against the law?
Lol. How hilarious. Are you saying we should break the law?
Directed at you ? Because those poor souls won't differentiate between the authorities / com. officials / public .. they may be praying for the help and resolve to their acc. issues from anybody from sky to earth .......... ................ Sun , 01.06.2014 , 15.39 hrs
Tell me for you what 's more important for a right thinking person politics or humanity ? .......................... It's strange you 've decided so quickly that you can't help them , this has disheartened me so much that I can't post even one more comment ........... so till tomorrow .... bye ... ... Sun , 01.06.2014 , 15.33 hrs .
How come when it's our own mother / father -- in laws etc we spend thousands on them & entertain them for months together but when it's our own locally working folks we reject them on their face ............
Why are you directing this at me? Qatari people asked the Qatari government to shift laborers out of family areas. I'm not Qatari so I can't change the law. I can't make them stay. I can't help them. Qatari law is Qatari law, and everyone must follow it.
Galinda , Lets consider those as our own family members ...... It's politics when you argue about the problems and don't think / suggest any remedy to reduce the sufferings of your brothers / sisters ............. ............ Sun , 01.06.2014 , 15.25 hrs
Khalli , Your fellow citizens need your kind attention .... specially from those who spend so much on personal leisure / drinking beer from 5 PM to Midnight daily .. ................................................................... Sun , 01.06.2014 , 15.15 hrs
Let's all just remember why the bachelors are being kicked out of the family areas:
http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/qatar/qatar-foreign-state-employees-seek-solution-for-relocation-dilemma-1.958077
Qatari authorities made the decision to move out bachelors from residential areas after Qatari nationals have repeatedly complained about "lack of respect from expatriate bachelors for local values and traditions and menaces to the Qatari way of life" and called to relocate them in specifically designated areas.
I'm not following 'the crowd'. I'm following THE LAW. I don't care whether it's right or wrong, it the law of this country, and the law must be respected. Besides, the original deadline for bachelors to leave family areas was November 1, 2011. That's over 2 1/2 years ago, and these companies have been ignoring the law and pretending that they are too important to follow the rules.
If you can't reach out to the low paid gentlemen , then who will need your assistance ? .......... ,.......... Sun , 01.06.2014 , 15.09 hrs
Galinda , They are also Asians like you & Khalli ..................................... Sun , 01.06.2014 , 15.07 hrs
Galinda / Khalli , Instead of enjoying the news piece , be a part of the solution , think & suggest ... how about this one ........ If 22 families can 2 workers each as guests and one family can 1 worker with them till their company sorts out the alternative there won't be any trouble for our fellow citizens .......... Sun , 01.06.2014 , 15.00 hrs
can any1 provide me some link here so as to report abt sharing accomodation to govt. authorities,,,,thanks in advance :)))
well galinda now they move the bachelors later they move out low income families out to the outskirts building will high rents . go take a look around at pearl the whole place is a ghost town i remember visiting a freind flat recently at pearl there are only four apartment occupied in the whole building the rents are not less then Qr 14000 per month so before you talk about something take a moment to think about what your saying dont always follow the crowd
well galinda yes it is ilegal but it everything what is banned by the government doesnt mean its right
What has 'human rights' got to do with it?
It's illegal in Qatar for bachelors to stay in a family area. Is there a simpler way I can say it?
and your name is khan so you must be a pathan why do u want to kick out ur brothers naveed
i was born and raised in qatar i guess you come from a village who doesnt understand human rights khan
Partitions not allowed, Bachelors can't stay in family buildings, Company not providing accommodation, rent to high, Compounds not allow bachelors, WERE THEY WILL GO. ???
well said galinda... might be sameeh iftikhar is new to qatar or him self is pathan...
well said galinda... might be sameeh iftikhar is new to qatar or him self is pathan...
Sameeh: You might "believe any body should be allowed to stay with full freedom where ever they want" but in Qatar it's ILLEGAL for bachelors to live in family areas.
sometimes when people talk here i feel like either they have never lived in a city before or maybe the boring slump here has dumbed everyone to believe what ever any body mentions is right . I believe any body should be allowed to stay with full freedom where ever they want and its not something new to this world so Mr Khan naveed next time when you move to a new place make sure there arent many pathans in that area if they bother you just because u dont feel comfortable u cant move 1000 people to another location . And like qatar has enough places where people can stay .
jiller, chill.... they have right to stay not in family are...
Khan_Naveed the Pathans also have right to live in this country,. i suggest you move to a place where your favorite families are staying.
please visit Doha Jadeed and remove all pathans with their big big vehicles, which really difficult to stay with family.
When we touch with the Labor we can find out these kind of all faith is depend on the "LABOR RULE"
Qatar is running and the human law is still standing......
Qatar goverment should build the apartment like japan 1 ROOM 1 person with attach kitchen and toilet and on cheap rent. Average salary holder get 1000 qr for housing then how can they afford 2000-2500 room rent in qatar....?
Is this useful to comment here and talk to each other...? Or they are reading(ministry) these comments..? If they are reading, then ok to write something here... . Government has to arrange accommodation for 45 workers
Expect also FIFA 2022 to be transferred to another country due to homeless expats....
So, they taking it seriously now. And Greedy Flat holders are in fear already on this moment. Expect more expat to be homeless(?).
It doesn't seem to me that the 45 workers living there did anything wrong. The fault is with their company. But it will be these workers, low paid Asians, who will suffer, and the manager of the company who made this decision will be sleeping in his 5 bedroom villa tonight.
...with the soaring summer
Where have they sent the 45 workers to live?
:)
