The Amphitheatre at the Pearl put on its red carpet outfit on Saturday, April 5th, for the Red Bull 60:Seconds award ceremony – a ceremony that was dedicated to the creative students of Qatar, who were asked to produce a 60-seconds clip about their inspiration and about what gives them wings.

20 amazing clips out of 90 applications made it to the award ceremony, which brought a touch of Hollywood to the Pearl. ‘Anas’ and ‘Notes on a vending machine’ gained the heart of the judges and the audience: Both clips won in two categories.

The overall winner with the highest score was ‘Notes on a vending machine’ from Rehab Ahmed and Ahmed Abdelnaser (Qatar University).

Red Bull 60:Seconds returned to Qatar with its “wings” theme to promote university students’ filming skills and drove them to produce creative short clips answering two questions: What is your inspiration? And what gives you wings?

After an application period of 2 weeks, the best 20 clips were invited to the award ceremony at the Amphitheatre (The Pearl), which setup the perfect glamorous frame for this evening.

Three categories were judged by experts judges Mohamad El Sharif (Innovation Films), Hajar Mojarradi (CAN-Q), Yasser Mustafa (Doha Film Institute) and Ziad Fleihan (The Pearl-Qatar).

After a one hours screening and an inspiring show of Qatari Rapper Track and his friend, the 250 spectators were asked to make the first decision, as the clips ‘Anas’ as well as ‘Happy’ reached the same votings for the Best Story.

Finally ‘Anas’ by Mahmoud El Touny, Mohamed Habib and Feras Al Khayyat gained the heart of the spectators telling the touching story of Anas Karaki fighting against his desease.

It won in the category Best Story and also in Popularity with more than incredible 40.000 views on Youtube.

The judges voted for ‘Notes on a vending machine’ as winner in the categories ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Editing’.

All Red Bull 60:Seconds participants were actually winners, as they had the opportunity to showcase their skills and be ‘film star’ for a day.

Their clips inspired the audience and showcased the incredible creative potential of Qatar’s youth.

The winners in the categories Best Story, Best Picture and Best Editing were handed over 3.000 Qatar Rial vouchers from Virgin Megastores.

The winner of the Popularity award got a voucher for a movie making workshop with Innovations Film. The overall winner was invited to Red Bull Flying Bach show coming up in November 2014.

“Growing old is inevitable, but growing in status is a choice” was the touching message of Anas Karaki for the audience.

A message that builds the perfect bridge to what Red Bull 60:Seconds stood for: Find your inspiration and trust in yourself!
