Aspire Zone is once again preparing for another busy weekend with thousands of residents set to attend or participate in a range of sporting activities this weekend.
Leading the way in creating an active lifestyle for the community, Aspire Zone will give more residents the chance to have an easy introduction to Kayaking by conducting its popular novice sessions on Aspire Park Lake.
Local resident Amyn praised the initiative, “I am new to Doha, and am really pleased to see this sort of activity in this part of the world. Keep up the good work, Aspire Zone!”
Another Doha resident, Evelyn, also commented on the activity, “We are the first kayaking students in Doha, exciting! A very refreshing and relaxing experience, I loved it!”
The weekend fun will begin with a ‘Night Run’ that will see nearly 400 runners race around a customized 5km course carrying lights and wearing bright colors. The run will begin at 10pm on Thursday at the Warm-Up Track located between Aspetar and Aspire Dome.
Additionally, Aspire Zone’s overwhelmingly popular Community League tournaments continue this Friday, with the volleyball matches taking place between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, and the basketball games running from 6.00 to 8.00pm.
This weekend also marks the GMC TriSeries Competition final. Featuring a swim, a bike ride, and a run around Aspire Zone, the competition caters to all ages with circuits of varying distance. It will start at 5.30am on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, Saturday will also mark the end of the COPA Coca-Cola tournament. Officially endorsed by FIFA, this month-long youth football competition is part of a wider initiative that saw hundreds of teenagers in Qatar, aged 12 to 15, gather at Aspire Zone to battle it out on the pitch. The final will be held at 12pm on the indoor pitch at Aspire Zone.
Finally, the GCC Athletics Championships is set to conclude this weekend. The tournament, which succeeded in uniting hundreds of athletes from around the region, will culminate on Sunday following 4, 5, 6 April / three days of intense competition.
