The Kulluna Health and Safety Campaign recently organised a training course in the safest use of children’s car seats.

The course, part of an initiative to raise awareness to improve child safety, was attended by volunteers from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and other organisations with a shared goal of keeping Qatar’s children safe.

Dr Khalid Abdulnoor, Director of Hamad International Training Centre (HITC) and Chairman of Kulluna said, “The course comes as part of our campaign to increase awareness among the people about the importance of children’s safety at home and outside home, to minimise child injury and death resulting from parents’ failure to follow safety rules for their kids, particularly while in cars.”

Course instructors included HMC staff and instructors from the US – all specialists in the field of child safety. About 40 volunteers were trained in the use of various types of car seats, with a focus on how to install them, perform inspection and maintenance and select the suitable car seat for children. The course aimed at providing knowledge to a volunteer group who can then teach others.

“Instructors were brought from the US to conduct the course to create a technical elite among Qatar’s population, who will then educate others at public places and raise awareness about the importance of car seats,” Dr Abdulnoor said.

Kulluna has special educational caravans moving between places, such as schools, public parks, shopping malls, and residential compounds, offering child safety advice. If anyone is unable to benefit from it, they can contact HITC, which provides free expert-led education on how to select, install and maintain children’s car seats.
