I am not the right person to advise you on the type of the plants suitable but I do know where you could get potted plans that are very cheaper when comparing to the supermarkets, etc.

Try Arab Qatari Agricultural Production Co. located in Al Shahaniya (on the western outskirts of Doha). Head towards Dukhan by taking the Dukhan Expressway via the Tilted/Slope Roundabout. The most important landmarks you would pass are Qatar Foundation, Amiri Guard (massive fort-like structure on the left) and Rayyan Sports stadium on the right. Most of the main road is under construction. Take the first exit once you come back on to the main expressway. Total drive time is about 40-minute from QF. Exact coordinates of the place is 25.366721,51.245259. They are open Sat-Thur from 5:00 AM - 12:00 PM, and from 3:00 PM -5:00 PM. Friday till 9:00 only. The front 'gate' is actually just a lifting arm barrier operated by the farm guard. Tell him you would like to visit the nursery and voilà‎ open sesame! The nursery is located at the last right just befor the white warehouse type structure. Indoor plants greenhouse 1, 7. Herbs 9 (i think). Outdoor plants and flowers are located in Greenhouse 5.

Friendly staff working there and they do give discounts (thought i doubt you need a discount since the unpotted flowers cost QR 1-3!!!).
