Sheraton intersection partially opened
The Sheraton roundabout, which is being converted into a signalised intersection, is partially open for traffic from this week.
The street between Post Office junction and Dafna Roundabout is open in both directions with no traffic signals or road markings yet.
Commuters using the road leading from the Post Office junction to Dafna roundabout cannot turn left to enter Al Fundoq Street and Al Taawon junction.
They rather have to head towards Dafna Roundabout and take a U-turn to access Al Fundoq Street at the Sheraton junction, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said.
Alternatively, drivers from Al Fundoq Street will not be able to turn left in the direction of Dafna, but they should drive right till the Post Office Junction and make a U-turn.
The Sheraton intersection is part of a project consisting of three lane dual carriageways on the Corniche street including three lanes towards City Center Mall and three lanes towards Omar Al Mukhtar Street, in addition to the side roads to the right of signals.
The work also includes creating a signalised pedestrian crossing between the two intersections to access the new Qatar International Exhibition Centre and other government buildings located in this area without a need to make a U-turn from Al Dafna intersection.
Ashghal has previously completed converting roundabouts on Al Corniche Street, Al Markhiya Street and Al Bidaa Street to signalised intersections. Source
