How to find a doctor in Doha?

Hi all, my name is Luiz and I moved to Doha a few weeks ago, alredy got my RP and the company provided me Allianz helth insurance. The thing is, I have no idea how to get a doctor around here! To start with in my country you should never go to a public hospital, here I heard that the public hospitals are better than private ones. Is that true? Next, usually what I did back home would be to check my insurance booklet or internet to find doctors who would accept my insurance and if I had a back problem I'd go straight to a speciallist, no need for a GP first... Here they just gave me a list of clinics, not even sure what kind of specialist the have there. Next, I should always schedule an appointment, what about here? Can I just walk in? Besides, we always ask for a friends opinion to find good doctors, now here I got no one to ask.... I'm sorry for so many questions, but I really need a doctor to treat my constant heart and sciatica pain... but have no idea where to start with. Thanks for the help!

Hii,

Welcome to Doha :)

You can go to the heart hospital which is also one of Hammad Hospitals. You will find the specialists for the heart conditions there. You can get the number of the hospital from the internet and call them to fix an appointment. Hope that would help you. Good Luck.

in Hamad u need to wait to much before getting an appointment.in private hospitals its difference,u can be walk in patient or apointment within short time.in big private hospitals u should come firstly to ER and there GP doctor will refer you to the specialist regarding ur complains and problems. If you know already the name of specialist u can try to go to him directly like walk in or most probably for an appointment. Also u should check list of hospitals covered by ur incurance.good luck.

You are right that public hospitals here are quite good such as Hamad Hospital. However, from what I have learnt from colleagues, one needs to wait quite a while there before his turn comes. For other private clinics you don't need to have an appointment. Just walk in pay the fee and wait to be called in. However, many clinics do not have doctors for some types of problems such as yours which I believe is related to the heart. You can get details of private clinics/hospitals in Doha from Google. You can then call them up and find out for yourself if the doctor you are looking for is available with them.
