Ashghal signs contracts worth more than QR 10bn for road projects
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday awarded seven contracts worth QR10.19bn ($2.8bn) for the construction and development of an expressway and expansion of existing roads under its Expressway and Local Road Development (LRDP) Programmes.
Three contracts worth about QR7.72bn were inked under the Expressway Programme. Two contracts were signed for Al Rayyan Road including one for the construction and development of roads from west of the New Rayyan Roundabout to the east of Bani Hajer Roundabout.
Another contract was signed for the construction and development of roads from west of the Olympic Roundabout to west of the New Al Rayyan Roundabout.
The third contract was signed for the design and construction of phase 1 of the New Orbital Highway, covering 45km of the 180km long highway.
Work on most of these projects is expected to start in the first quarter of this year, but have different time schedule for completion varying from Q3 2015 to Q1 2017.

Changing roundabouts to signal will not help much. Ashgal should really think about bringing more flyovers and tunnels to reduce the traffic.
