TEDxEducationCity 2014
The long-waited TEDxEducationCity 2014 will be held on January 18th, 2014 at the HBKU Student Center Ballroom, a press release issued by the forum said yesterday.
TEDxEducationCity is a college student run event that aims to bring student expertise together from all Hamad Bin Khalifa University partner campuses and spread ideas all across Education City and the greater Doha community.
The January event will be the result of six months of collaboration and hard work.
In 2012, TEDxEducationCity attracted more than 500 attendees.
On January 18th, a second edition of the event will be hosted at HBKU Student Center, the hub for students in Education City.
“As the HBKU Student Center is often labeled as the melting pot for all the branch campuses, we thought that hosting TEDxEducationCity in the building would respect and benefit our community the most.” said Ahmed Hashmi, co-curator of the event.
Next month’s event will include six talks from HBKU branch campus professors, alumni and other members of the community.
The theme of the talks is “Branch Out”. “We are really excited to bring a fantastic line-up of people from a variety of different disciplines and perspectives,” said Curator Jaimee Haddad.
Students working on the project come from all branch universities in HBKU as well as Qatar University. “This month, our team has been working tirelessly across three continents and five time zones to make it happen,” Haddad added.
Most of the core team members have been involved with TEDxEducationCity since its inception. “We are honored and excited to take this movement to the next level,” Hashmi said.
“We feel a need to enrich our college experience. Planning and executing TEDxEducationCity gives our team an excellent platform to be a part of something much larger than ourselves, and by hosting it at the start of the year, we hope to motivate our fellow students to branch out.”
Registration is now open for anyone in the Qatar community, although priority would be given to current college students. Media representatives can also register from the official website of the event.
Key partners and sponsors of this event include Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Center, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, and Qatar Foundation Housing and Residence Life.
