All building materials were imported, thus making the construction cost to multiply comparing to other countries and don't forget the realty companies thats also adding their "slice" from the rent

The rents in qatar will be in comfortable level only when the middle men stop asking comission in the name of key money.........one month rent ........half month rent........so..so...Specially the office rents are sky rocketed.......

Well, you can find an apartment for 4k and a big villa in west bay for 50k. But compared to prices in 2008, the rents are fairly cheap today in Doha.

Better to go for shared accomodation thats easy on the pocket and less hassle. And like any other country, Qatar's economic dynamics including rental rates will change over time based on demand and supply.

For the ones who are complaining on this topic : And please dont blame Qatar for high rents, etc. No one put a gun on your head and asked you to live here. You are doing this by your OWN choice coz other countries (including your own) will probably never give you the kind of (Money, safety, inclusion, growth) that Qatar gives to all its residents....If you are looking for "The Perfect" economy that MUST suit YOUR individual needs although you yourself are probably not perfect, then please go and create your own village in your home town and let see how good you do. You should be thankful for what this country gives you; so either stop bragging like a cry baby or go back home!!!

Supply and Demand, pure and simple. Try finding a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in West Bay, even a decent 3 bedroom is not easy to find! Prices are actually going up!! Even the Pearl isn't that easy, with friends of mine struggling to find a decent 2 bedroom furnished apartment. You can find, but not in the decent towers away from the main construction.

As with anywhere in the world, if you want to stay in the premium places you're going to spend more money....granted, you could live in some amazing places in other cities, but you'd also have A LOT more choice of locations and properties.

It's a knock on effect down the market. No signs of this changing.

I don't think its the demand that's the problem, there are plenty of vacant properties in Doha.

Doha prices are similar to London and other capital city prices where there is a'lot more demand than supply! This is simply ridiculous as how many people actually WANT to live in Doha? Even the Qatari's spend half the year abroad...

I think the problem comes from the fact that pretty much everyone is an expat and to get expat's to come the companies have to pay for housing at the going market rate...

Although saying that rent has come down alot in the last 4yrs I've been here. I remember when I first came. A two bed apartment in the pearl was going for 18,000qr/month now I've got one for 10,500qr/month!

Which is still ridiculous when you think what you could get in Miami/London/Paris etc etc And I know where I would rather live!

In other gulf countries, Pay scale is generally way below than whats paid in Qatar.

In other hand.. You can't really call the Qatar's current rent amount as hig, as the rent in Abu Dhabi is way higher than here. Even dubai isn't that cheap lately, although you do have a option of living in sharjah for cheap rents and working in dubai.

Its all because of the intermediate people who puts the contract from Qatari for less amount and giving for more rent to others.

Because demand outstrips supply, especially for quality built accommodation. It will take another 10 to 15 years for the market to mature.
