Out of Curiosity

Just curious, what do you think is the objective of some employers here not to give release to people who have already served them well for a considerable amount of time (2 yrs. or more) and have found other opportunities which the current employer cannot provide, e.g. career advancement, better compensation package etc. Could it be power tripping? Sadism? Superiority complex? Jealousy? Selfishness? Or maybe some are just brain dead? :)

It depends on the company, so the "LAW" depends on the company...

Providing a release is a lot of paperwork. You have to print an NOC, and provide a computer card etc etc.

Some employers just can't be bothered. There's nothing in it that benefits them, after all.

At the end of the day, it is 'we' who need 'em and not the other way around. They have plenty of options and people are queuing even for meaner jobs these days... competition is too much and if we won't do it there are 10 other willing to do so. Hence, can't complain and even if you do, its no use :(

you can only ask for release if the company is not generating income or not giving you salary atleast 3 months or bargain that 3 months salary in exchange for release.

UAE has relaxed their sponsorship laws recently and made the employees to freely change their sponsorships......Qatar is always a great follower of UAE, we could expect in near future, the labor law may be relaxed :)

Giving release to employee is always varies depend on company's management. It is very conservation approach for holding people.

I know "it's their country and their prerogative", "no one forces you to come here" and "take it or leave it" crap but in the end I hope these people get satisfaction from curtailing freedom or preventing other people making good for themselves. And for those reasonable and professional employers who are kind hearted enough to give release, bless you:)

When my first company back home wasn't willing to let go of me I was happy that they cared for me (through my contributions) and at one point of time was even thinking to withdraw my resignation. Guess, different places have different twist to the same story...:)

There are a few factors.

The employer's logic is that they paid for your mobiliztion and recruitment costs, so why should they then let you go for free.

also, it gives them a hold over you when negotiating new contracts.

lastly, it may have soething to do with the issuance of visas and reuse by the company.

Which law? If it is the law then no one will be given release or NOC ever but there are some who get it right?

I don't think there's a specific objective. It's just the way it is. The rule is in their favor. This is their country after all. Bottom line is we need them more than they need us. Take it or leave it.
