Hi everyone! I am a filipina and this coming january we are about to arrive there.. Im just wondering if how can we manage to budget our salary of 3500 QR for our monthly living.. Me and my 3 girl friends was offered a job in a money exchange company inside qatar airways.. How i wish i could find an accomodation near to our workplace so to lessen the expense of our transpo.. And also, do you think we can easily find a part time job there so we can have another source of income since the employer allowed us to do that on our offhour.. Anyway, im looking forward to meet and have friends here...:)

its not yet too late my dear, try to negotiate...

to give you a perspective of cost of living here in Qatar. Hope this will help

- a room near to your office will cost you 1500-2000QR (common toilet) (excluding water & electricity)

- a bedspace will cost you from 600-800qr inclusive of water and electricity.

-your lucky enough if you live walking distance from your house to your office, if not you have to pay 10QR min for a single way taxi fare. So, you need 20QR per day. Unless your work is broken timings then you have to pay 40QR/day.

-you need to eat, a 1QR here has no value, they will not give change to your 1QR, instead they will give you chewing gum as your change. Imagine how expensive to live here.

I think you are expecting too much. as far as I know , doing other jobs is illegal. How do you know you will be able to get another job to make ends meet.

Perhaps its better to bide your time and wait for the right job / salary to come along.

Bmelki- we havent meeting the employer yet.. It was just my uncle who discuss the details to us.. He told me that when the indian employer arrive here.. He will try to negotiate it with us.. The reason of the employer is that its really the price they offer to there filipina staffs.. Since most of his staffs are filipino...

3,500 Package is too low. Cost of living here in Doha is very expensive. You shouldn't convert it to peso because when you get here, you will spend it in QR. House, food and transpo can consume all of your salary. lol!

Khana- thanks..:) but its not that i dont have any job prospect here.. I just dont like being employed here cause every filipinos know why, very less salary.. It might be good if u were employed in sales here cause they got commisions in every hard ship they do.. Or i guess if u happen to be exposed early in a business type then u earn much more than ur sister who is a "supervisor".. Just like me.. Thats y i dont see myself being employed here..:)

Thank you everyone!

The good thing is that with your 3 friends, you can rent a room and share. That would save you a lot of money. Check the advertisements here to have an idea how much it will cost you (but approximately it will be around 500).

Hope this helps!

I think its okay to start with, if 3500 QR comes with a package of accommodation and transport and all, then it will be okay as a beginner in Qatar.

Finding accommodation will not be a big deal over here. There are millions of ads getting posted in QL Classifieds. And I am sure you will get enough of friends over here.

Enjoy and have fun.

All the very best for your new life and btw, welcome to QATAR!!!

Inclusive of everything. . .

try to re-negotiate (it is not sufficient)

else you will end up tightening your belt too tight while staying here knowing that you don't have housing+food+transport

You cannot work part time without the written permission of your sponsor. That won't happen with QA

3500 is very low - accomodation is very expensive here.

eninej..i believe offer is too good given the average for filipinas..i recommend u take it if there is no alternative..there are many pinoys over here and u will feel just at home..with your friends coming over, it should be easy..

I noticed filipino people here share apartments, you could live with a family who is renting a flat and they can give you a room by urself. I see some ads from time to time..not sure which area u look for in Doha..but if i see something i could text u here..let me know..and welcome to doha

@azila and lionel- thanks for the suggestion.. But as far as we are concerned its really there basic offer to there filipino employees.. Cos if we are about to convert it here in peso its already a good price for me as first timer php 37,000.. I wont get that salary here with my non experience profile..:) but as we see its now a different story there in doha.. Most of there employees are also kabayans.. And i guess they still survive.. Haha.. Anyway, i just grabed it for the sake of new experience.. Since i wasnt able to have a work here in my homeland... Cause i was too busy doing networking and i dont see myself in employment here..

The salary for sure is low, no doubt and if u cannot negotiate it still is not a problem to get an accomodation as there a lot of shared accomodations for kabayans on QL at any place u want which is reasonable n clean too than for anyone else. Part time job is too possible as ur employer has given u d green signal, but it might take a little time, so get settled first with ur job n accomodation.

if it's package...you need to re-negotiate your contract...too low.

If its basic salary only, PLUS transpo and housing allowance, then you're ok.
