Replacing Qtel's Mozaic TV with OSN??

I'm currently subscribed to mozaic tv in a package that gives me a bunch of mozaic channels, a family package from OSN, al jazeera+ sports channels, internet (2mbps) and a landline.

I'm thinking of just retaining internet and landline from Qtel and getting my satellite tv from OSN for a few reasons:

1. Most importantly. OSN provide a satellite box with a recording function & internal hard drive, and for those lucky enough to have sampled the delights of Sky+ HD, you'll know what I mean

2. As long as I stick with mozaic, the interent speed cannot be upgraded from a max of 2mbps, and I prefer more!

3. Not as important to me, but HD doesn't seem to be an option on mozaic.

Now the whole mozaic/landline/internet package I currently have is costing me about QR580 a month, and I reckon to just replicate that if I split TV from broadband it'll cost me about 650, not to mention the added cost of the increasing the internet speed.

So before I start spending more money, can anyone who is currently on OSN let me know what it's like. Any service interruptions? Picture quality good? Recording function works well? Any other options to consider?

Qtel have already promised a recording function when fiber is installed, but that doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

Cheers!

I think I'll give it until new year and if nothing happens I'll switch

rolling it out at a decent clip- ie-installing the modems in peoples houses,it'll be sometime before they "turn on" the internet.I've heard estimates of a year to 2 years. And this from people work at QTEL and involved in the implementation !Go figure....

that's not too bad and probably worth getting the extra 500 gigs of storage even if you don't record a whole lot.

cherukkan, yes I asked them and checked the website, mozaic is offered with 1mbps and you can pay extra to bump it up to 2, but that's the limit, not sure why but they made it pretty clear. Was told about 6 months ago that I'll get fiber "any day now" so yes it would probably solve my main issues of wanting recording, getting faster internet and a better picture, just not sure if I'd still be waiting in another 6 months. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they gave a timeline, even a rough one

Thanks for the feedback virtual, my understanding is that the cost of the box is a one off charge, then you just continue to pay the monthly charge as normal (same as sky+ HD deals)

Are you sure that you cannot move to 4 or 8Mbps because of the Mozaic connection. I think this issue will be solved as soon as they complete the fibre installation.

Fibre is being installed in most of the areas and I think it will be completed in January 2013 in which the minimum speed will be 10Mbps with Mozaic.

over 2 years now.Not a single service interruption.HD is HD. I think OSN broadcast in full 1080P.No issues there, even the SD channels look good.

Cant comment on the recording function since we only have the regular HD box. That said, opting for the 1TB HD recorder box (-vs- the 500gb)cost more than the subscription for the Premier Plus HD package itself !! Woah !!!
