Villaggio fire hearing postponed 4th time

A criminal hearing to determine responsibility for the 19 deaths in the Villaggio fire nearly six months ago was postponed for a fourth time this morning after the owners of Gympanzee did not attend.

Several defendants, embassy representatives and victims’ family and friends crowded once again into a small courtroom at the Lower Criminal Court in Al Sadd today, but they will have to return a fifth time on Nov. 29 to see if the case moves forward.

The repeated absence of Iman Al Kuwari, owner of the daycare where 13 children, four teachers and two firefighters died of smoke asphyxiation, continues to be a sticking point...

Qatar is not interested in the world's opinion. In the end the Al Thanis will do what is good for the Al Thanis!

and the case is followed by thousands on social network.

Shameful, to say at least.

Had the circumstances and details surrounding the case not been so grave and painful, this hearing has all the makings of a parody! Seriously..why don't they just close the case already since everyone knows by now the culprit is never going to see a day in jail, Allahu alam! My heart goes out to the parents and loved ones of the victims...truly they deserve better than this!

that the trial would go on "with or without her"? Was it a new judge this time? or were they just trying to placate the families? Truthfully, I don't expect her to ever return and face these charges. With her connections, there is no chance she will ever be given any sentence. Shame on Qatar

More disgrace.

It's hard to respect either Qatar or its justice system when such miscarriages of justice are allowed to happen.

If something happens to Qatari citizens abroad, Qatar has no standing to complain after this fiasco.

It's a merry go round.. The owners are least bothered.. It's just a waste of time.

Al Kuwari's lawyer did attend, but the court said she must be physically present for the hearing to proceed.

Not a hijack, it shows justice is not blind in Qatar, so don't be surprised when justice is not served.

It only shows how ridiculous the justice system in Qatar is. It doesn't deserve the name.

Just pointing out the injustice here. If an Indian was the owner he would be in jail with no bail. Different rules for locals...

Only 4th time? I am not expecting a show up.

Tahsinmin.....in my country the court will issue a summon letter to obliged the suspeck in attending court hearing and denying so..court will charged another case against the suspeck which is 'delaying the process of LAW'.

In the case of this GYMPANZEE owner..how come yani she is not attending those hearing in 4th times????? What if she won't show up anymore..is there any upcoming justice for all the victims through that kind of system? I THINK NONE.

So SAD.

The Rule of LAW in this country isn't that fair to all.

At the end, the court may say to all expat victims like this..IF YOU DIDN'T COME TO QATAR ALL THIS TRAGIC EVENTS IN YOUR LIFE WILL NOT HAPPENED..SO IT'S YOUR FAULT!

The owner of GYMPANZEE then not guilty for any charges!

CASE CLOSED..tok-tok-tok!

Indian National steals 1 loaf of bread. 1 year in jail and deportation

Qatari National, very serious crime, no need to turn up to court for trial proceedings. Go straight on holiday and do not pass court building, instead bunk up in a 5 star hotel somewhere and enjoy karak.

forget about them getting any punishment...this is Qatar...you get 10 year prison for stealing and 1 year for killing.
