Salary for expats in Qatar
Hello,
I have a question related to expat salaries.
A multinational company is offering me a position in Doha with a total salary on 17,000 QR per month. ($4500 US- this makes it around $54K per year)
The company does not offer any benefits or allowances such as car or house allowance.
The only benefit I get is medical coverage.
I’m aware that most companies in GCC offer a return ticket to its expat employees at the end of the year; however this company does not even provide any ticket.
There is bonus system in place but it kicks in after 6 months.
I am married with no kids. Please tell me if this is a good offer or not?
Thank you.
thank you everyone for your feed back. This was very helpful.
Robbie :)
Do your research. check in classifieds for housing prices. Everything in Qatar is more expensive, except for gasoline. If you are not going to be making almost double what you make in the US, then don't come.
Most of us get:
housing allowance
travel allowance
educational allowance
cost of living allowance
I agree with everyone. The salary and benefits offered are bit low considering your nationality. If they would have offered accomodation and Travel allowance and you dont do too much of outings then i can say you will be able to save some money.
if your a pro in your field stay where you are if the dont double the salary, with 17k there is nothing left by the end of the month to send to the US, if your wife is joining you here,. you barely can survive with 17k
a 2 bedroom app is min 4500 (old airport) in the westbay/pearl area up to 12000 ,
I agree with gene lv. It depends on your nationality. If you're a G.I.as your profile says then the 17,000k salary is peanuts. If you're an Asian then it's okay. An american lifestyle needs more than that package offered to you. Imagine it's all inclusive including airfare. Living standard here is high. Most specially the house rent and foods are costly.
Hello gene_lv
Thx for your reply. My nationality is American and the position is Marketing Consultant.
First of all, what is your position and your nationality? It may sound racist but salaries varies and are decided depending on your country of origin.
For example, a Turkish driver working in a Turkish company receives a thousand dollars compared to Asian driver who earns approximately USD 600 dollars.
An american engineer gets a salary in superlative as compared to Asian counterpart.
Cheers
