What icon do you cherish..

We all cherish things , which bring back memories or are icons of our culture / history.

I love the old "Rotemaster" bouble decker bus. Was sad when it was stopped. Happy , now its back. Same with the Red phone box. It reminds me of my childhood.

What are you sad at losing or cherish as a part of your history and should stay..(from Qatar or your homeland)

Residents of a tiny fishing village have set up a round-the-clock vigil to prevent their red telephone box being taken away.

Kilmuir residents on the Black Isle used their cars to guard the phone box after BT tried to remove it with a crane. They claim the classic “K6” style box, designed by the architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, is an important part of the village.

Now that's one iconic brand..a real thing of beauty that though with the coming of far sophisticated and yes miles tastier chocolates, one will still eat every now and then for that awesome rush of nostalgia!

From my homeland it will have to be those lovely little fairs they have every Sunday, all around the country in the more residential areas, selling every possible thing from fresh vegetables and fruits, fresh fish, various things made out of cane weaving, clay pots, toys, boiled corn on cobs, ice creams, etc..they are just amazingly fun to shop at, and no classy supermarket can ever come as close.

triumph is a strong word...someone didn't consider it worth the effort to go through with it or was kindhearted enough to see that it meant a lot to the people of that place and made an exception to the policy

I love the old "Nukebomb" bus.

Was sad when it was stopped by NATO and USSR.

They thought they were carrying nuclear missiles...:)

Actually, BT relented. Disconnected the phone box and allowed the village to pay £1 to adopt the box :o)

It shows that the community can triumph over the paper pushers..

which was built in say 1935 - 1940 where the community prayed was demolished in 2010 by the managing committee saying it was too small & old structure ..

But there is already a dashing new bigger spacious buliding up & running since 1995 in the same compound.

In my mind that sturcture is still standing .. I can even imagine sitting inside now ..
