Hey Guys.. Planning to buy LED tv (40 inch) for home. So just wanted to know how much would they charge me for Customs (approx) back in India (Bangalore airport)??
Half of this post should have been posted under QL Indians group...the part after the take off and landing in India. That part is not relevant to Qatar..:)
It is good to check for latest tariffs before travel. You never know when it got changed. There are several sites, try to access through google...:)
this month as i came from vacation custom officer told me that they allow LED 40 as well as it is under the limit carry the bill better only they charge for excess gold as per his information
I carried a 40 inch LED TV to Kochi last July . The price was QR.2200 in the bill ( Rs.33,200 @ Rs15/QR during that time). When asked to pay the duty at airport, I showed the bill and they were convinced. No need to pay single Rs for things less than Rs.35,000/-. But keep the bill with you.
I carried a TV this feb to Bangalore and the rule was not to exceed 25,000RS per passenger. We had our receipt and we were allowed to go. PLease also remember, the customs have a higher exchange rate- usually 2% higher.
In January, i took a 40'LCD Bravia back home. They asked me to pay "something" at Kozhikkode Airport. I told them it is exempted from any duty and why should i pay "something"??? Needless to say, i ended up paying Rs.1000/-
LOL i was just searching QL for the same. Planning to buy a 40" LED to take back home and was wondering if there's any customs duty on it.
Whats the max value of the TV and size allowed to carry? It used to be 32" without any taxes but now i heard its 40 or 42" anyone know or have taken before?

Keep your bill with you. It is important. You can show it,if needed at the airport, if they ask you to pay duty.
Isn't it 25,000 Rs or did they raise the limit in this year's budget?
Up to Rs.35000/- worth items, no customs duty. The price of a 40 inch LED TV won't exceed this ( Max. Rs.30,000 ).Don't Worry. Enjoy
For goods worth above Rs.35000/- for each extra cost, you will have to pay 10% of the extra cost as customs duty
