Need Some Real Advice Here

Hey Everyone - need some serious advice here... So I just arrived here in Doha a few days - do I like it so far, hmmmm... not really sure yet - I miss the freedom in the US.

My problem is - so, I started with my new job, don't like it either, it's not what I expected at all. I came here on my own visa, but the company who hired me paid for my airfare. I don't think I can make it through further down the road with them, so maybe after a few weeks, I will have to tell them that I'm not continuing on - don't want to tell them just yet coz I want to show them, I tried at least. I feel bad, because they are extremely nice to me, they would give me everything to make me feel comfortable - but it's just that the job is not really what I am looking for. I need a more diverse environment, to keep me going in this country, so I have already started applying somewhere else.

So what shall I do? Can I just offer them to pay back whatever they spent on my airfare? I really feel so bad to do this, but I don't think it's going to work out.

Anyone - please give me some real advice here :(

Thanks everyone for your sincere thoughts ... these would really help me - fingers crossed I'll find a new job soon, so I can inform my company sooner than later ... don't want them to invest more time and money on me for nothing :(

if i were u i will do the following:

1st- don't sign the agreement with them and don't do the fingerprint and try to make any excuse.

2nd- keep on searching for some other job which u really like.

3rd- tell ur new employer to arrange new visa for u and then resign from ur current company & tell them it is personal reason.

4th- go for few days to Bahrain, Dubai or anywhere else and come back to the new employer without tension.

good luck

BTW, the above is what I actually did in 2004 when i first came to Qatar.

come to think of it, they are probally going to charge back the ticket cost to you so no need to worry with a guilty feeling.

But nevertheless, i second the advice given above that wait some more before you decide.

I kinda vibe you meant something else with your words in quotation marks .... hopefully you are not misinterpreting what I meant when I said "freedom" ... I just realised too that you are a woman yourself - and I'm pretty sure you understand how it feels in my position. But thanks for the post re my ad. Have a good one.

Smoke..Some like it that way..especially when she is missing the "freedom" of US. This picture could solve all her current problems and make her feel "at home" soon...

Work through your probation period while you apply else where, if you find something better by then you have the option to not join this company.

If you make your intentions known now to this company, they will just throw you out on ur arse and you wont have anything in hand.

Also you might want to remove your pretty picture from your avatar, so people who might be working in your company dont recognize you and to save you from mass PM's you might already be getting.

Try to work things out. Maybe you have to give your job some time. But if in the end you are still feeling the same way, then think about the formalities for leaving the company. Goodluck!

It's not a big issue.

You are lucky that your employer is good with you. This is the normal phenomenon that everyone faces but it doesn't mean that we just quit job.

Most of the people face a lot of problems caused by their employers, at least you don't have that so relax and wait for more time to get yourselves accilimatized. ;)

Be honest from the beginning, and maybe they could help you out.

It may be the initial period .. giving you the feeling to retract .. but is very common with many new comers here .. try to cope & win over it .. remember your target .. is the prime objective ..to bring you here ..
