visiting QF & unis for academic position?

Hi all,

I'm currently in Qatar on a visit visa and looking to get a job. I have a Masters degree in (a subspeciality of) electronics and communications from a reputed UK university. I was doing my PhD in the UK (in the area of pattern recognition and computer vision) but had to withdraw temporarily due to health issues - I hope to complete it in the not-too-distant future.

Anyway, I'm wondering if it's worth doing the legwork of going personally around the different academic institutions (Qatar Foundation, Qatar University, etc.), CV in hand, sniffing out people to hand it to... or it just doesn't work that way?
