I will travel to Qatar in a month fro Europe in order to join a company. How long does it take a resident visa to be issued? Can someone rent accommodation without a resident visa? If not whare can he live?
Hi guys! My husband arrived in qatar last 1st of July 2012 and to this date still does not have his RP. A part of it was due to the EID holidays as the immigration office was closed. He was able to finish his medical and finger printing before the holidays. Now my question is what will be the next procedure/requirement(s) before he could actually get his RP. It has delayed all our plans, including applying of course for our Family Visit Visa.
I think 2 or 3 months is a bit excessive for a RP to be issued unless there are some major issues but if you have entered the country on the correct visa and your medical is issue free then 1 month should be the max time to process, possibly shorter. Hopefully your HR department will be dealing directly with immigration, just keep on to them (politely of course) and you may be surprised!
Better to check first your accomodation before travelling to Doha. If your accomodation allowance is included in your salary package then you will stay in the hotel on your arrival hence you cannot rent till you got the Residence Permit and this is required also for the application of your bank personal cheque to support the monthly rental.
If the company you are starting work with is in any way decent, they should have temporary accommodations for you waiting for your RP to be processed. If not think twice before coming over here. It may be an indication of how they treat their staff.

It may take 2 to 3 months for visa to be issued. No rent without visa. You can stay in a Hotel or of course company arranged accomodation.
Good Luck and welcome to Qatar.
