ramadan working hours

Ramadan kareem!

i would just like to ask where to complain about excessive work hour during ramadan?

normally our working time is 8am-1pm 4pm-8pm = 9hrs for 6 days.
ramadan they made it 8am-4pm = 8hrs/6days! it's crazy! they just took 1 hour of the normal working time, plus i can't take my lunch in the office. I already talked to them about it and said it was the same as the previous years.

note: they didn't specify overtime for the excess 2 hours.

i would gladly appreciate if someone can give me advice on this.

Your normal working hours (54) are over those prescribed by the labour law (48 hrs/week).

Ramadan working hours cannot exceed 36 hrs / week, again, according to the labour law. You can be asked to work over 6hrs a day, but it will be categorised as PAID overtime.

Your 8 hrs straight shift is illegal, as per the labour law. A minimum 30 min break is mandatory after 5 hrs of work, as per the labour law.

So, there you have it. 3 non-compliances. What are you waiting for? Go and complain. There is a hotline for ramadan timings non-compliance complaints (keep watching the newspapers in the next few days). Get an arab speaking colleague to call, and complain.

If you do not have a dedicated break room, they cannot stop you from eating at your desk.

Is that LULU HYPER? 8AM to 4PM is their office working time in Ramadan...

The timing should be 8AM to 2PM everywhere or 9AM to 3PM.

i have the same experience here. We asked our HR department to provide a memo regarding the 7-2pm working hours for muslims, and 7-4pm working hours for non-muslims. but they haven't produced any. they have just posted a piece of paper without any official memo. Those bastards! i can't complain with these since the main office produced a 7-2pm work schedule. wherein in our site office they don't follow.

You can write a petition letter, ask your colleagues who are not in favor of the timings to sign (of course sign in their own will) and submit to your management. If they refuse to address your concern then go to labor department.

Yes, it's time consuming and there's a risk of sacking you from the job, or it can come up with a positive result too ;)

Goodluck!

i don't see anyone in the office not complaining to this one. i am sorry if i have been ranting about this online. but for 4 years in dubai i have not experienced this. as for having lunch inside the office, i don't see it as possible though because every corner of it has a muslim colleague. the pantry even is not possible where it doesn't have a door.

oh well, no other choice but to work it out.

it's just so disappointing that in the richest country, working environments have not been that pleasant.

I have a question. Are you the only one complaining in your company about the timing or bunch of colleagues too. If bunch of colleagues will complain then it is better. If one then you can be at risk of losing job. You can have your lunch at designated areas in your company.

now a days it become routine to most of comapnies, as per qatar labour law working hours during ramadan is 6Hours only, but most of the companies are not following the law. either continue your duties or make a complaint to labour department, the choice is yours.

Note: If you complaint to labour dept still it is a time consuming process you have to show proof, and you have to fight for justice as it will not happen easily here unless?,law favours employeers not employee.
