shipping question

Hi everyone,
I am not moving furniture and large things so I don't need a moving company. I would like to send two large boxes (or at least one large one) besides bringing two suitcases. I looked into DHL. One large box is about $460 US Dollars to send. That's more than the contents are worth, although to do want those contents over there with me. It seems a bit crazy to spend that for one box, and maybe I'd be totally reimbursed, but I don't know. It is not at all clear to me what monetary offer I'll be given for shipping expenses. In the contract it only says "allowances based on shipping 200 kg. Method of calculating cost bsaed on airfreight rates." I don't really know how to interpret that. If anyone can interpret it for me, that's great, and/or does anyone know of any other shipping methods that would make sense for me?

Hello again,

At least you have now decided that you are not using a Courier company.

I used to work for Agility Logistics in the UK, Qatar and Dubai before moving to my current company.

Now I work for a completely different company and we do not specialise in general cargo and/or personal effects.

As said before, please let me know your location in the US so I can ask Agility's office nearest the location you are in.

If they cannot help me, then I am certain I can get you a contact that specialises in personal effects movements from my contacts in Agility.

Therefore, please let me know your location.

Thanks...

So, I got this response back from the HR person when I asked if there was a company they preferred me to use for shipping:

"No we don't know any company would like you to use for the airfreight.

We advise you to use the cargo - door to door not express courier."

So, if I follow that advise, I will not be using Fed Ex or DHL. Anyone have any advice for me on which companies to use out of the U.S.?

Please send me a PM telling me whereabouts you are in the US. I will see if the office of the company I worked for does personal effects or if they can recommend someone. Trying to help, so please contact me.

Hi there,

I am not based in Doha anymore but do check on here if anyone has any shipping queries.

For DHL the chargeable weight is what they base their prices on and the ratio for this is 1m3 = 167kg. Therefore for 200kg chargeable, the volume of your pieces is 1.2m3.

If you lower the volume you lower the cost, plus if you don't use DHL Courier or Removal company and go to a general Freight Broker it will be cheaper for you as they more able to offer cheaper rates for Personal Effects shipments.

Hope this helps in a small way at least.

Regards...

You have told that you don't need shipping company but it's needed to shift your package. I know that shipping charges is very high but you don't have alternate option for it. I personally use moving company to move my home things at other place.
